5 Wedding Day Details That Matter

 Simply South Wedding

Sure, there are a lot of finer details in putting up a wedding ceremony but here are 5 wedding day details that matter but are tend to be ignored in all the hotchpotch of a wedding.

  1. Your Entry & Exit
Your wedding day is of course all about you. Entries and exits are so important and constantly evolving with Asian weddings. Remember to always pick or agree your walk-in music with the DJ beforehand because it can really set the tone for the rest of the ceremony. If you want more of a silent ceremony then go for something calming and perhaps instrumental, whereas if your event is more of a party then go for something upbeat or even a little funny.BW 7pjb11

Similarly exits are also changing. No longer are brides expected to hug 25+ family members as she completes her vidaai. Instead couples are opting for more of a western-style celebration where the bride and broom walk out to cheers greeted with rose petals or confetti. It’s your last chance to drive home your sense of style – make the most of it.

  1. Stationery
Signage is key at any event. Be sure to wow your guests as soon as they walk in with a welcome sign, or perhaps a seating plan and personalized place cards. If the bar’s going to be open then why not opt for a drinks menu or get some personalized napkins or coasters to dish out with your drinks. Your chosen stationery will help you tie everything together and make your theme and style statement visible to your guests.01c3f395ab713867b3caa321b120084a

If you’re having any quirky additions at your event such as a photo booth then think about having specific signage for this or maybe even a cardboard cut-out of the bride or groom or some well-known face. Think about what will set your celebrations apart.

  1. Favours
Favours are your main chance to thank your guests for their attendance. Your chosen gifts will largely depend on the type of guests you have. If you have a younger circle of friends and family you could potentially opt for alcohol miniatures or even a fun game, which will help everyone break the ice on the table.

If you want to play it safe then food is always a good option. Whether you go for cupcakes, macarons, biscuits or even chocolate bars, they’re sure to be a hit. You can personalize your boxes, wrapping or even get stickers made to match your theme.

  1. Guestbook
    Guestbook

Your guestbook is something you can take away with you and enjoy for years to come so think about what you will enjoy looking through as a couple. You may want to opt for a traditional book or perhaps have one big board which your guests can sign, which you can thang up in your house. Alternatively, more quirkier options are things like date suggestion jars and wedding advice cards.

Not only is it important to consider what you’ll be using as your guestbook, but think about where it will be placed. Your table will need some kind of decoration and signage to entice people to it. Keep it classy with some candles and petals, or even a photo frame or two. Remember space is a good thing – you don’t need to fill every inch of your table with items.

  1. Cake9bd14d767cadd2f116884ad6437d0061
If you’re having an evening reception or post ceremony celebration you’ll want to have a cake. While there are many alternatives to a traditional cake (which we’ll talk about in a later post) there are so many things to consider when choosing yours. You need to think about the size you need; while a 4-5 tier plus cake might look stunning, do you really need it? Or can you afford it? Perhaps you may just need one cake to cut and can have a separate serving one. The design of the cake is also key, ensure it is in keeping with your style.

As well as design, there are so many different flavours you can experiment with. Our personal advice is to keep it simple and ensure it is something that will appeal to most. For example, you can never go wrong with a classic victoria sponge.

How to Pick Wedding Favours with Flavour?

Your wedding will most likely be glorious and memorable, and the people to primarily contribute to this glory will be the friends and families who grace the occasion with their presence.

To show them that you appreciate their presence on your big day and they play an integral role in the festivities, be sure to select your wedding favors with utmost care. Besides just buying the favours off the shelf, making these little indulgences personalized is what gets etched in the minds of your friends and family.

Here are some innovative and pocket-friendly wedding favour trends that you can choose from.

Confine it to Confectioneries

Chocolates, candies, cupcakes and cookies are sweet treats you just can’t go wrong with. Though these favors have been done to death, no wedding guest has frowned upon discovering a sugary delight in their goody bag. Nothing speaks of love and thanks better than a lovely little mint-flavored after or mouth freshener. Another benefit to presenting candied surprises is that they make appealing, multicolored gift bags that’ll look classy any way they’re wrapped.

Components of Joy

Ingredients and spices are unconventional favors, but they’re definitely the most thoughtful and practical. Little bottles of olive oil or rosemary customized with the wedding guests’ names on it would speak much gratitude for the flavor your guests brought to your wedding celebrations. A little case of saffron or jar of cardamom for your Indian guests would prove auspicious and a refreshing change from the usual mithais.

Brew Some Love!

Tea, coffee and cocoa can make for unique, personalized and gourmet wedding gifts. Mini jars of these daily drinks are not only elegant and classy but useful as well. Imagine your guests enjoying a warm, relaxing cup of their favorite beverage while reminiscing about your wedding. So pick out your favorite gourmet blend and show your guests your appreciation with a delightful cuppa joe!

Bubbly Bounties

If you’re looking for an extravagant wedding favor, your search ends here. Miniature bottles of whiskey, vodka and other spirits are the way to go. What could be more festive than having your wedding guests pop open their own personalized bottles of champagne during the wedding toast! There are a million ways to glam up these gifts with glitter, color, ribbons and other shiny things and make these mementos ones that your guests will talk about for eons to come.

Scented Sensations

If your favors aren’t going to be edible, at least make them aromatic. Scented candles, essential oils, soaps, bath and sea salts and potpourri make for unbelievably chic and exotic wedding favors. Whether you want your wedding to symbolize love, peace or fun, there are scents you can present for every mood and theme. These scents will invoke memories of your wedding day for years on end.

Tasteful Table Utilities

Table utilities as wedding favors could be just about anything. You can really let your imagination run wild with this one. Be it a beautiful set of custom-made coasters, an elegant photo frame displaying your guests’ place cards, bottle openers with the invitees’ names, or paperweights that represent the wedding theme, the possibilities are endless. Whatever you opt for, these thoughtful indulgences will truly be special surprises.

Favors truly are worth the effort and price you will invest in them. Guests look forward to receiving them, so make sure they’re functional, fun, meaningful and won’t be left behind. They’re tokens of appreciation and needn’t be overly extravagant. Just remember to offer what you can afford, but something that you would appreciate receiving. Happy shopping!

5 Game of Thrones Themed Wedding Cakes you need to see!

We all LOVE Game of Thrones and whatever comes with it. It’s Friday and all of us are already excited about the next episode.

Here are some Game of Thrones cakes which will make you drool.

You can have this at a party or a wedding. I hope it gives you more inspiration for your wedding cake design.

This Mumbai Couple Had A “Game Of Thrones” Sangeet and we love it!

Shaurya and Sanjana Mehta are big Game of Thrones fans. So when they planned their wedding, something related to Game of Thrones being part of it was only natural and we must say they made it absolutely fantastic.

The idea was first suggested as a joke when their families sat down to discuss themes for the wedding. But soon, it stuck.

Shaurya, who originally came up with the idea, says, “I first thought of it for the wedding and the very next thought of ‘The Red Wedding’ got me to choose it for the Cocktail / Sangeet.”

The couple made their entry carrying the Stark and Lannister sigils and were greeted by a sword salute by their close friends.

This couple handcrafted their entire wedding…Insane DIY ideas! Their cute dog was their Videographer.

When wedding photographers Cathy and Sebastian decided to tie the knot, they knew what they wanted. The couple got married in August last year and from the get go, the one thing that they focussed on was to enjoy the entire process and on making everything they needed by themselves!

Says Cathy, their wedding was relaxed, DIY and focussed on their friends and themselves and their Pinterest mood board was their main source of inspiration.

Cathy and Sebastian’s wedding ceremony was unique and was neither religious nor civil. It was guided by their friend Oscar who played a game with all guests singing an old song from their childhood called El Anillo (The Ring). Between each verse, their closest friends would read something to them and the song would continue. Then at the end, they exchanged Vows and Rings!

The catering was from Roberto Galvez Banqueteria, but amazingly by the guests themselves. Guests brought along desserts, salads and other amazing dishes to create a potluck. After lunch, guests grabbed a blanket and created a massive picnic dessert area of sorts.

If their wedding wasn’t already unique enough, the cherry on the cake was added by the bride’s homemade dress and the fact that their pet corgi, Leica was the videographer 😀

“We made almost everything by our own hands. We silkscreened table cloths, made concrete chandeliers and did all the floral arrangements. Also, we hired and hung all the Tuscan light bulbs and the pendants at the venue. For my wedding dress, I had bought a dress from Modcloth, but it didn’t fit me so I redesigned it with my friend Natalia. In the end, we only kept the top of the dress and were very lucky to find the same colour in a fabric store in Santiago for the bottom. I also made my headpiece with some crin flowers (a technique that uses horse hair to make the flower shapes)” says Cathy

The couple saved money by picking a venue which had never hosted a wedding before. It was a risk but luckily it worked out!

“The best thing about planning our wedding was being together, doing things for our friends and knowing that everybody was going to have such a good time that day”, she concluded. “The worst thing was not knowing who was going to be there or not, right up until the last minute we had guests confirming if they were coming or not!”

They advise future brides and grooms to try to enjoy the whole process. Enjoy every single thing about the wedding day, even the things that go wrong.

The laughter you’ll have together about it, days or months after the wedding, is amazing.

In retrospect, there was nothing they could have done differently. It turned out better than all that they thought it could be!

Says Simran, who married her beau Hiren at  Munjoh resort,” Right from the onset we were certain that we didn’t want a run of the mill wedding. We both have respect for traditions but both felt that Indian weddings tend to be an unnecessarily drawn out affair. Something that just didn’t appeal to us. Since our location was so stunning, a lot of our activities were centered on the beautiful beach where we got married”

Although Simran warns,”The islands are still fairly untouched by commercialization so there are actually no decorators available there!  I anyway dislike a lot of decoration and wanted the kind of more organic stuff that was around when my parents got married. Simple genda and mogra decoration, which the resort staff pulled off beautifully!”

She adds,”As a token of thanks, we took everyone scuba diving after the wedding. In fact one of my cousin’s proposed to his girlfriend under water, he had a ring and everything! And we arranged for champagne for them when they got out”

You will not believe how this Indian bride blended her Indian tradition with her husbands Texas Charm!

When Priya Sambasivan met Ryan Foster through OkCupid, the first meeting lasted 7 hours! The connect was so strong, it seemed like a glove fitting over one’s hand. In Priya’s words,”The date felt like a long, slow exhale of breath I’d been holding for years”.

“We just fit together,” says Ryan. “We had similar values and philosophy of living but enough differences to help each other grow. She laughed at my stupid jokes, and my jaw dropped when I saw how beautiful she was.”

Two years later, the couple was tying the knot at the Hamilton Station Vineyards in North Virginia and it is just amazing how they blended each others culture and tradition within their wedding!

Everything from Priya’s dress to the wedding ceremony to the food was just fabulous as seen in the photos 🙂
