Forget about finding your soulmate…people have started marrying themselves!

Marriage since time immemorial has been a ceremony where two souls become one and an institution is created. One of Family and love where two people live happily ever after till death do them part.

But, hang on. There is a new relationship trend in town.

People are marrying themselves. The concept of Sologamy is when a person loves himself/herself so much that they want to get married. Literally, you read it right.

Take the case of Erika Anderson.

In her own words,”“I would describe it as women saying yes to themselves,” Anderson said. “It means that we are enough, even if we are not partnered with someone else.”

Apparently, when she walked down the aisle, there was no one looking at her, which is how she wanted it.

Anderson said she grew tired of people asking why she was still single. So, in front of family and friends, she married herself.

Self-marriage—or sologamy—is growing. Partly because it’s popping up in pop culture, like when an episode of ‘Sex and the City’ floated the idea.

Anderson married herself to celebrate independence and believes others should, too.

“You’re worth it!” Anderson exclaimed.

She celebrated her anniversary by going on a solo trip to Mexico.

Now the best part, she also dates and is open to marrying someone else. Would that mean she is cheating on herself?

Slowly and steadily, the trend is catching on and many businesses seem to be using this stupidity as a business opportunity, offering sologamy ceremony kits, wedding bands etc.

What do you think? Would you marry yourself?

What this Couple did for their wedding guests will make you smile…

With weddings, we hear stories, extraordinary stories of love which make us believe in life and have faith all over again.

Which constantly remind us, life is beautiful.

We all know how weddings work, after the I  DO we have the Dinner and Dance and loads of other customs which we enjoy a lot.

What this couple did for their wedding guests added a whole new meaning to love and showing how much they care…and a small step by them re-instills a pride in humanity!

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat got married in Kilis province which is near the Syrian border and invited 4000 Syrian refugees who have fled the country since the civil war, to come celebrate their wedding with them.

Fethullah Üzümcüoğlu and Esra Polat

“We thought that on such a happy day, we would share the wedding party with our Syrian brothers and sisters. We thought this was best done with Kimse Yok Mu who could provide a truck. God willing, this will lead to others doing the same and giving food to our Syrian brothers and sisters. For us, it was an interesting wedding dinner.”

The father also said he was glad that the couple began a new life “with such a selfless action”. Wedding guests shared food using trucks and those providing meals included the bride and groom themselves.

All we can say is, we are left speechless. Nothing can express the kindness you have shown and may your new life be filled with Joy and Prosperity.

What happened at this arranged marriage meeting will leave you speechless…

Growing up in India, we all at some point go through the wonderful process of arranged marriage.

Calls go back and forth, mothers speak first, meetings are set up and the bride and groom to be, move on from one prospect to another being evaluated and checked, and this is just me trying to sound normal about it, it is however quite a mechanical process in all honesty.

Most times though, this seems to work. Happy couples, happy families and all is well that ends well.

But sometimes, outrageous demands are made. From Dowry to threats to what not. A post by one quora user is beyond outrageous. It is outrageously the most outrageous of outrageous demands I have ever heard.

In fact I have never heard something even close to such nonsense.

What the post says:

“Okay, This is an experience I heard from a friend.
The girl belongs to an orthodox, religious Indian family. She lives with her 2 paternal uncles, their wives and kids and has 2 siblings of her own, in short an elaborate joint family.
She has just completed her B.A. from a girl’s college, does excellent embroidery and Henna Art, and congratulations, she’s a very strong candidate for Marriage.
The younger paternal uncle’s friend’s neighbor’s wife’s brother-in-law’s brother (phew) is a candidate too. So a marriage proposal is laid down and a meeting is fixed for the prospective groom’s family to visit the girl’s place to “SEE” her and “EVALUATE” her.
Both the sides, everyone is excited, preparations are in flow and the fateful day arrives.
The prospective groom arrives with an elaborate family of his own. His mother takes the lead and begins scrutinizing the girl, grilling her with all possible questions and the groom-to-be is eating cake and biscuits in merry. After the intense grilling session, the girl breathes a sigh of relief and looks towards the prospective groom’s face, to catch a glimpse, to realize he’s still busy eating cake.
Suddenly the to-be Mother-in-law whispers something in the girl’s mother’s ears. Startled at first, the mother says something to her mother-in-law and reluctantly they both get up from the living room, politely excuse themselves from the guests and along with the girl and the groom-to-be’s Mother, go to the nearest bedroom.
Now, you will not believe this, the prospective Mother-in-law asks the girl to strip down because she wants to make sure that the girl is “FAIR” overall, physically fit for marriage, bears no sign of albinism and is a virgin!
The poor girl is embarrassed and bursts into tears, the girl’s grandmother politely refuses to such outrageous demands and excuses the lady out of the room.
The marriage proposal is discarded and the girl is admitted to a computer course for 6 months, till next time..
This is horrendous and insulting and by far the craziest experience I’ve heard concerning arranged marriages.
Till date, prospective brides are treated like an item on sale, to be examined thoroughly for damage and quality before pasting a “sold” label onto their foreheads. Such outrageous demands begin with scrutinizing the bride-to-be for appearance, lead to dowry demands, and later domestic abuse.”

It makes one wonder how many different types of sick does a person have to be to even imagine going to someone’s house and making such an outrageous demand, actually doing it is a completely different story.

Disgusting!

4 Wedding Hacks everyone should know about which can help you save money!

Wedding’s as we all know can be an expensive affair, especially here in India with an industry worth 1300 crores annually.

There are ways, however, where you can save on the precious greens and stick within a budget, we tell you how.

1.Get a Wedding App

A wedding app does not cost much, our sister concern provides customized wedding apps to clients for as low as thousands. With features such as a conversation wall and invitations section, push notifications and an agenda section. This wedding app converts into your very own social media network and guests carry your wedding in their pocket. With the amount of time people spend on whats app and facebook these days, it should be a piece of cake to get your guest’s attention.

Where this allows you to save is it helps get rid of printing invitations and conducting RSVP’S, which with the number of guests invited more often than not proves to be expensive.

2.Hire a Wedding Planner

Now you may think, wait a minute, is this a post about increasing expenses or saving them?

It is most certainly about saving, the reason a wedding planner can help you save more than spending is because being within the industry they have an exact idea of how much one should spend where and on what.

It is easy for them to identify why something is not needed purely basis the experience gathered over years!

3.Have a dessert bar instead of cutting a wedding cake!

Mooh Meetha karvana is a tradition, and in line with that tradition, having a dessert bar is quirky and fun, and can be a great alternative to an expensive layered wedding cake.

It also allows you the liberty to have an assortment of desserts and is usually part of the caterer’s package.

This is just repackaging something that already exists to look a lot better than it already does 🙂

4.Rent your jewelry

Although it might make you cringe at first, it is not a bad option if you are not too big on owning jewelry but need to spend on it for the wedding.

There are beautiful sets available which can make you look stunning, to say the least, and there are many suppliers who rent them out for a small fee!

Ask your wedding planner’s how this works.

All we recommend, what is most important is, Just Have Fun!

The list of licenses you require to factor in when planning your Wedding / Sangeet ceremony :)

Why you should get married on Gudi Padwa by The Wedding Planners Diary

People often ask me, what is the most important aspect when you plan a wedding for your client? What do we as clients need to account for?

Before any wedding function takes place, there are a set of licenses which one requires to acquire to ensure a glitch-free wedding.  Most hotels provide clients the list of licenses, which they would require to be submitted to them 24 to 48 hours before the function begins. There may be slight differences in the list provided, depending on the agenda of the function.

Let us hypothetically consider a sangeet function which has everything in it, A closed door invite only event. It is a wedding ceremony filled with loads of fun and frolic with Live Entertainment and a DJ Party to follow.

The list of licenses you would require are:

  • Rangbhoomi License
  • No objection Certificate from the Additional Collectors office
  • No Objection Certificate from the Local Police Station
  • No Objection Certificate from the Traffic Police Department
  • No Objection Certificate from the Fire Brigade
  • Police Commissioners Note

The above licenses come as a cluster of licenses common for any event.

For the DJ at your event, you require:

  • Phonographic Performance Ltd License: For any music apart from music by Yashraj Films.
  • Novex: This license is acquired for any music used at the event which is by Yashraj Films.

Entertainment

If you are having any Live Performance at your event, then you require:

  • IPRS: It stands for Indian Performing Rights Society Ltd. It is issued for any Live Entertainment you plan to have at your event.

Other Licenses Required:

  • Liquor License
  • Public Works Department License: You need to get this when you have a generator at your wedding function.
  • Foreign Artist Permission: Whenever you have people from another nationality performing at your event, you require to submit their documents i.e passport and visa copy to the authorities.

champagne

Documents you will require to get these licenses:

  • Floor Plan from the venue
  • No Objection Cerificate from the Venue
  • Letter of Application to different licensing departments on your wedding planner’s company’s letter head along with an affidavit on a stamp paper.
  • Visa and contract copy between the artists and employee company if you have any foreign artists performing. It would be preferable in this case to get artists on a business visa and not an employment visa.

More often than not, it is advisable to ask the hotel what licenses they would require for the event and accordingly proceed.

So given above are the list of licenses required for your wedding, we are here to respond to any queries you may have, please feel free to post your feedback in our comments section 🙂

Would love to hear from you!

Your’s Truly,

Barkha

A wedding in UP got called off because of 2 Rasgullas. Yes, you read that right, 2 Rasgullas!

As diverse as the country itself, India’s wedding traditions are a talk of legend. We have heard of 400 Crore weddings, Bride and Grooms entry involving spaceships, we have also heard of a wedding getting called off because of the choice of biryani! But, what happened earlier this week tops the list!

It happened in Kurmapur village in Unnao district, about 70 km from Lucknow. The marriage of Shiv Kumar (25), a resident of Khutaha village in Unnao, was arranged by his father one Satyanarayan with Kamini (name changed) from the nearby Kurmapur village.

The baraatis reached the village, with the groom,  to solemnize the marriage on April 14. Inebriated

Rasgulla Wedding by The Wedding Planners Diary

Drunk baraatis gyrated on loud music when they reached the venue. They were welcomed by the bride’s father and relatives, with a sprinkle of rose petals. Cold drinks and steamed hot coffee were served with snacks.

Since the baraat had reached a little late, the groom’s father requested for dinner as soon as the dwaarchaar (ceremony at bride’s door) begin. Baraatis were requested to have dinner the moment the ceremony began.

A lavish buffet spread was laid out in a seperate pandal for the baraatis to enjoy.

Wedding Buffet

Suddenly, a heated argument ensued between the dumb shit cousin of the bride and an idiotic cousin of the groom.Lol, this is where it begins.

The groom’s cousin, Manoj, served himself two rasgullas, much to the annoyance of a close relative of the bride, who was managing the sweet stall. He was instructed to serve only one rasgulla to each baraati. The infuriated relative objected to Manoj taking two rasgullas.

Arguments turned into a scuffle and soon more baraati’s joined Manoj and beat up the bride’s relative. The venue soon turned into a free for all.

Punches and blows were being exchanged like they are in a bar fight. Both sides grabbed whatever they could get their hand’s on and started hurling it at each other. The food pandal came crashing down in no time.

The bide and the groom’s father, who were performing the dwaarchaar ceremony, ran towards the war zone to understand what led to the sudden free-for-all. They tried to pacify but none of the sides backed down.An angry idiotic Manoj, along with other baraatis, abused and thrashed up the bride’s father and other close relatives. It got to a point where someone was about to pull a gun, but to everyone’s surprise, better sense prevailed.

An angry idiotic Manoj, along with other baraatis, abused and thrashed up the bride’s father and other close relatives. It got to a point where someone was about to pull a gun, but to everyone’s surprise, better sense prevailed.

The police, somehow, counseled both sides and restored peace. Village elders and the panchayat were called to sort out the issue and allow the marriage ceremony to be solemnized in their presence. The bride, who was seeing the whole drama from the rooftop refused to marry, I wonder why.

Both sides repented the incident over an extra rasgulla and pleaded the girl to complete the marriage ceremony. But she did not budge even on repeated requests from her parents. Finally, the marriage was called off. Gravies on their faces and dresses, baraatis and groom returned to their village without the bride.

I can not even understand how many different types of dumb and disgusting one has to be to be able to behave like this, period. It does not matter whether it is a wedding or at home, how fucking stupid can you be ?
